Why Support Kids & Horses?

For your head, this page will give you answers to the dozens of questions you might have about Kids & Horses.  Since our founding in 1999, Kids & Horses has been committed to the highest standards of financial transparency and accountability to our supporters.  We can only succeed in our mission if we have the confidence and trust of our riders and donors.

For your heart, we always feel that the best way to learn more about Kids & Horses is to come see in person what we do.  We offer tours throughout the year twice a month – you can find our tour schedule here.

Key points to take away:

Kids & Horses puts individuals with special needs on horseback about 1,500 times a year. In our 12-year history, Kids & Horses given nearly 20,000 therapeutic riding lessons.

Lessons account for about 13% of our income. We fundraise the rest with a combination of private donations, grants and special events. Kids & Horses' total revenue in 2010 was $130,000. Our net assets are $170,000. 

Kids & Horses voluntarily gets its finances audited, we will have our 2010 audit posted in Jan. 2011.

Kids & Horses has a committed board of directors focused on accuracy and accountability.

Our staff has over 50 years of horse and nonprofit experience.

The organization’s founder, Sam Waldman, believed so strongly in the value of equine therapy that he established Kids & Horses with his own funds, at his own ranch.

In 2010, Kids & Horses volunteers logged over 10,000 volunteer hours – the equivalent of 5 full-time positions.
